I am attaching a series of photos so hopefully the rover nuts on here can help a new guy that has caught the series bug BAD!.

Can anyone tell me if this is stock? I dont see it on any other rover 109. If not stock, anyone have a passenger wing for sale with the hole?

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo179/jumpmaster54/mysterypanelwing.jpg

A pic of my rear door with a panel on it. This was owned by 1 guy for over 35 years and one other for 3, now mine?

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo179/jumpmaster54/mysterypanelreardoor.jpg

OK is this hole for something? It is on the passenger rear panel? If I need to change this panel, they sell them on Rovers North, is it easy to change?

Next Crazy photo, There is a switch on the middle door on the drivers side inside the handle area and two wires that come out by the door stop rod that lead nowhere as they are cut off? Is this stock?

http://i373.photobucket.com/albums/oo179/jumpmaster54/mysteryswitchdriversmiddledoor.jpg

What are these holes, there are some on the upper door halves of the middle doors and on the hard top?

Last 2 photos are extra panels I found inside my rover when the shipper brought it. Any idea where they go or if they are extra?

Thanks

OK I wanted to add a photo because the original owner got really happy with marker lights. I am curious if anyone knows how har it will be to get the aluminum welded up when removing all of these? Is it easier to find a new top cap?

isthis a stock RPM guage or an add by original owner?

No on everything being original (big patch panels not original. Not sure about the heater intake grille).

Those tubes sticking out below the windows are drain tubes to let water out of the window track well.

Those extra panels go below the seats on the seat box.

And why not just use rubber blanking plugs on the holes?

This hole looks to be a drain hole from the window track. I have some on my 109 in the rear of my truck cap.

These look kinda like modified under seat panel covers...(center access, toolbox and/or gas tank covers...)

- RPM gauge is not stock, nor is the panel it is mounted on
- rear Door panel appears to be something riveted on to possibly cover up a problem of some kind, or reinforce something.

Thanks for the replies so far. There are like 12 lights and a total of 16 holes to cover up from thoe crazy amount of lights put on. I suppose plugging them with rubber plugs then painting over would be OK.

I may try and find a rear door in case its a nightmare under that panel.

The front hole in the side of the wing would be fresh air for the heater. The large square patch around it is not stock. Hard to tell what year yours is to say if it came with it or not, Late 2a and 3 came stock with the hole. The back up lights are probably not stock either, the Series 3 came with flat square lights.
The switch in the handle is not stock, probably for some alarm or interior light by a PO.
Unless you really dislike, or are a rivet counter, all the extra clearance lights on the roof (which are not stock) I'd just leave them. It makes that vehicle unique!

It is an early 1967 IIa serial number #21. It does have the upgraded windshield vents so this could be why the PO made the hole and used aluminum to reenforce. when you say back up lights? Not sure what you meant? Thanks

The clear lights on the back. Do they not come on when in reverse?
The hole in the right rear panel probably held the trailer light connector or a CB antenna.
Like some one else said those panels in the back go under the front seats. If they are extra you can use them for making spare panels for the dash or cover up stuff.

Or sell one of the ones with hinges on it to me, as those are the same hinges used on my 109 for the rear tool bins, and I have one without hinges.

Just from and aesthetic point of view, I'd remove all those extra side marker lights. It looks like a semi tractor-trailer mated with a Rover. That small hole on the rear quarter panel might have been a port for trailer light wiring to pass through; it lies below the interior panels, doesn't it? That is, it opens just into the rear wheel well? I agree with other replies that you should blank off as many of those as you can. It also seems that someone put in little round white side marker lights in place of the proper square reverse lights - maybe go back to the square ones. RN has them and they are not expensive. That riveted plate around the air intake on the front fender might be from someone fitting a later SIII fender (or even a Defender one) which had a larger intake hole, so the old grill and ring was too small to fit.

Good luck-

Tom

Why not just lighten up a bit and just drive it for awhile. You can go broke fast if you get "ship fitters" on things that really don't matter that much.
The heater intake looks ok, the big patch is just that a patch that is probably covering a botched hole cutout just leave it. You really don't want to burn yourself out on the small stuff. The rest will truly test your resolve and you'll end up selling her, just drive her and enjoy going off roading.

Actually that is what I have decided to do. I am parking for the winter and will collect the parts I need to get her done some day. I will take care of the frame corrosion prevention and repaint asap though.

I have a 1974 109 Series III that needs some frame welding and I will do that in the next few weeks and drive that one for the winter.
