we all know how frustrating this can be..
finished swapping my Tuner motor into the truck and went to fire it tonight and nothing..
I had a New accuSpark distrib installed that I quickly swapped out for the original unit trying to eliminate any non tested parts..
I hooked up a spark plug tester and I am not getting spark..

I didnt get a chance to check the coil for power, but I didnt really touch that during the swap..

any help on some direction to go..

I think many of us has had that experience. Hope this helps.

Check for power to the coil.
Chech for power out of the coil.
Check that there's a ground for the dizzy.
Check the points or module in the dizzy.

Nothing as in "no click, no starter spinnning no engine cranking?"

After I posted I went back to auto tech 101 and did exactly this..
ended up I think the coil got dinged when the motor was either being dropped in or yanked out..
power in, no power out...

grabbed another one today @ work and will try round 2 tonight..

had power going into the coil, but had no spark coming out..

If you're getting power to the coil primary windings but aren't getting anything out of the secondary, the primary field might not be collapsing. The collapsing of the primary field is caused by opening the points, so I'd check to see that the points and capacitor are properly breaking the primary circuit.

yeah.. im attacking it tonight with a new coil, and NOS distrib..
I have to re time the engine, get it to TDC, and have another go at it in my own garage on my own time...

when I went home for lunch I tried to give it a few cranks..

Dropped distrib in after getting engine to the top of the compression stroke on the # 1 cyl.
And nothing..

is there anyway for me to check if the distrib is properly seated?
I am getting power to the points and as long as the rotor is turning it should be opening and closing the circuit...

I am using an internally resisted coil.. the same one I always have..

If you leave the distributor cap off and crank the engine, the rotor should spin, indicating that the distributor is engaged, I'd expect.

DING DING DING...

well now I feel like an idiot..
really big one..

seems there is a little thing that does not come out with the distributor that by golly me is kind of key in making sure the distributor engages..

sometime we all have to learn the hard way I suppose..

Ahh. Well. Problem solved then. :thumb-up:
