I have read and searched and cannot find an answer to this question. Perhaps there is a gap between my reading and comprehension...

I have a 2.25 pertrol 24v FFR.

I understand the firing order is 1,3,4,2 and the #1 spark is the valve closet to the radiator.

My question is this: which wire running from the dizzy corresponds to the appropriate spark plug?

If you were to number the wires on the dizzy 1-4 and the spark plugs 1-4 what would be the correct sequence from dizzy to sparkplug.

I'm trying to sort out a timing issue. Thanks for any replies. Have a great Thanksgivng!

It's whichever wire the rotor points to when the #1 piston is top dead center on the compression stroke.

I would probably take the distributor cap off leaving on rotor ,take off #1 spark plug and place finger over hole and feel for compression. At this point see where rotor points,it will be close to no.1 wire in cap.

based upon the responses on my post here are some pics of the rotor, wires and TDC.

this is what I believe is TDC

this is the position of the rotor at TDC. the plate is facing south away from the engine/spark plugs

below are two pics showing the wires from the dizzy to the corresponding spark plugs

I suspect that the rotor is not positioned correctly assuming I am correct about TDC. Are the wires from the dizzy to the spark correct? Thanks for any replies.

It looks like the rotor should be facing 'south-east' at #1 wire. I can't tell which wire is where in the pic but the rotor seems to off of #1 plug by a good margine.
Oh, one of those buggery water proof dizzys...

Remember the piston comes up twice in the cycle -compression and exhaust. To get it correct, disregard the markings on the crank pulley -place finger over -not inside- the #1 cylinder where the plug goes and feel for compression, not exhaust. Then note the position of the rotor. If it is not pointing close to #1 on cap, and it is like you showed, the distributor could be off by 180 degrees. need to pull out and reinsert. It may affect advance And retard.
