In the following pic, can anyone identify the "leftover" parts??!! I have since recalled that the right angled brackets (several) are part of the headliner frame assembly. Any clue on the others??

Also, can anyone answer the following questions:


1. Adhesive......what adhesive do you recommend to glue the rubber sealing strip on top of the windscreen frame (between frame and roof); my 1 piece rubber seal for the rear door; and the front vent flap seals (I understand the seating process after the seals are in place)???

2. I replaced the hub caps on all 4 wheels. Now the right rear wheel leaks oil from the cap. What should I look for??

Thanks.......roof finally back from paint tomorrow.....may be on this weekend!! Just running out of hardware, so placed another Fastenal order tonight!!!

Did you just replace the hub caps or did you replace the drive members? If you replaced the drive member did you remember the felt seal?

the bracket in the lower left of the photo is for attaching the lower plastic cover of the steering column ( the one where the fuse box is) It hooks into the lower dash with barbs. The galvi brackets look like the ones used to attach the hoopset to the windshield.

Leftover parts...Using the diagram below, you say you know what "F" is.

D--Identified by scatterling as the piece that goes below the steering column and holds the plastic column cover in place with screws.

F--Mounts under the 2 middle windscreen-to roof bolts and holds the headliner facia trim piece in place (the one that covers the top of the windscreen).

Those are the only ones I'm sure of...

C--Look like they might be the anchors for the middle 3 rear crossmember-to-tub mounting tabs.

A--POSSIBLY the front and rear headliner trim pieces for the recessed panel where the safari roof vents are.

Thanks for the positive comments! Turning out to be a bit more than a "tidying up" (as my wife keeps pointing out!!!).

JIM--hub caps only.....and there was no leak before. Just popped the old ones off, and put on the new ones.......

Great job on identifying parts!!! You guys are great!

Scatterling/Mark--Will check the steering column/cowl bracket D.

Mark--Thanks for the coding of the parts!!! Yes, F is the headliner mounting brackets. C----you are right....I used nuts....no wonder it was a pain to do on myself!!!! B---probably is part of the hoop set....sold that stuff a while back. A----please confirm, if anyone knows......headliner is coming shortly from Badger Coachworks! I do have two straight metal retainers that go above the alpine windows....if that is what you are referring to, then A is not that!

So, am shopping today for a few bits. Rubber adhesive....any clues before I wildly guess?

Will pick up the roof this afternoon, and the sun shield Wed/Thurs. Alpine glass is scheduled for install on Wednesday. Somehow I have to store these big awkward pieces safely in the garage I am working in so the maintenance crew does not accidentally damage them :eek: Got to get it installed by Sunday then to prevent that.

Oops--sorry. My description of "F" should have been labeled "E". In other wirds, "E" is the brace for the front facia piece that goes across the top of the windscreen.

[EDIT]: Just went out and had a look at my leadliner. I wasn't thinking that "A" were the pieces that go under the alpine windows, but rather the internal pieces where the front and rear headliners terminate in the center of the roof. Either way, "A" isn't that either, so I'm not really sure about what "A" is.

She is looking great. That is one tidy engine compartment. Where did you find the rubber plugs in the middle of the bulkhead?

Mark....thanks for the update and checking into the headliner for me.

David....appreciate the comments...will try to keep the compartment (and everything else) clean, but she will be a daily driver as before (which will be challenging after all this work!).

Plugs.....not sure which you are alluding to. If you are referring to the rectangular plastic covers on the left and right through which the wiring runs, these are original and cleaned up to good as new. I have another pair of those that I will be selling when all this is done if you are interested.

If it is another plug, let me know and I will point you in the right direction if I can!

They would be the two round plugs between the plastic rectangular plates. I'll look at mine and see if your extra rectangular would work for me.

As for keeping it clean, you have a clean plate:thumb-up: so it shouldn't be hard to maintain it.
