First to second gear shifting cold weather

We have a Series II 109 SW that shifts fine double clutching from first to second when it's warm out (50F +) but at colder temps we are grinding some. Just had slave and master cylinders replaced. All other shifting is good. Any ideas? Thanks.

Have you changed out the transmission fluid?

Put the transfer case in neutral after you start it and put it in gear to let it soften up the oil for a minute. It might help.

We have replaced the fluid. Will try the warm up of the transfer case since temperature is clearly part of this. Thanks.

The same happens to me. Once I drive for about five mins, its fine. But I like that neutral idea. I am using 80w90 if that helps.

Could also be the pilot bush giving some extra friction.

              Redline

Use Redline shockproof gear oil, best thing I have done to the ambulance. Acts like it is summer in the coldest weather. Quiets the gearbox and shifting is improved

I like westcoastkevin idea. I'm running 80/90w too. I think my tranny leaks too much oil to put Redline in it, but I bet it works like a charm otherwise.

                  Thanks

Thanks again for all the good advice. It does shift just fine after a few minutes warmup. The neutral idea helped. I also at first just shift into second a little early with no grinding.

Mine is just the same. Once I drive for about five minutes, its fine. All my Land-Rovers have been like that. I am also using 80w90.

Not that this will help, but.. Most of the time when driving around in the city,
                      I start off in second.
I do start in neutral, and always let my Series warm up a bit before leaving.

All good information that helps me know it's no big deal. Thanks again.
