I will be there again this year. Living in the Augusta area, it is just a short jaunt up the road from me. I'll probably be there for Saturday only, as getting the wife to let me go for the whole weekend is unlikely. I just hope we get a little snow before the event!

Anyone from Rhode Island going?

I am seriously considering it but have some issues on my rover I have to get in order to do it, and time is precious these days. I have to track down a short or something in my headlamps and purchase some of the requisite gear. If I can get things sorted and my wife gives the nod I'm going, finally.

I'll be there. I think for the 17th or 18th yr. First yr without the old Swamp$lut though. Will be driving the IIA this year and skipping all the trail breaking heroics LOL.

I'm really hoping my Rover will be in pieces by then. Not sure what I'll be in but I've got to see Matt resist the urge to be heroic. Looking forward to seeing folks.

I am considering attending, I drive a stock 90 with a 2.5 diesel and 235-75-r16 winter tyres. does anyone have any recommendations or warnings for me? I drive on unmaintained roads in the winter and serious trails in summer, but have never attempted any trails in winter.

As far as driving a stock D90, You should be fine, but it depends on what trails you plan on driving. At the vary least, you should invest in a pair or 2 of chains for those tires. It depends on how much snow there is, but chains are really a pre-requisite. Straps and shackles you most likely already have on hand if you drive trails in the summer. Dress warm, and drive to your abilities.

CB and Ham radios are used, but are not really a necessity as others will have them in your party if you dont have one. Many people drive stock rigs, including myself, but others arrive with strickly off road trailered trucks, and highly modified rigs. it all depends on how much you want to spend, and how much you are willing to break.:D

Hey, first timer here. I emailed and registered and plan on going if I can get a heater issue sorted out. Im bringing my stock 109 and she and I have only been together a few months. Not trying to be a hero, just want to do some easy trail rides and meet some good Rover people. From what I have read you can choose to take it easy or go nuts, is that true?

Lord Icon
01-28-2012, 10:57 AM
Yer nuts to go anyway. We all are. Yes , trails are available for easy to Oh My God. You can always turn around after you see a brand new Jeep 4 door rip it's rear axle off just 100 feet into the trail........ Oh what fun. 10 min on trail going forward, 5 hours winching out , killing batt's and testing the new winch to its extreme. deep loose powder SUCKS , unless you are skiing in it. :D
All I had was a series 3 with 31.5 tyres. Chains do help though.
If nothing else, the pictures taken will last a lifetime.

I went to the Deering NH outing. I thought you were coming? Then again , many people were no shows. The poor guy that owns the campground was pissed that some folk from Maine booked sites but did not have the courtesy to call and cancel.:nono: I had a great time though.:)

As early as possible. Camping at this event really motivates you to get up and get something warm to eat and drink. I am usually there warming up by 7am, unless something bad happens at the campsite...

First time headed up there, can someone fill me in on the camping experience? I want to bring my dog (a requirement from my wife if I go) and my first instinct was to camp, but I'm not sure I have warm enough gear. Guessing the holiday inn doesn't want dogs...

SalemRover

I use a 3 season tent with cot/thermarest and a zero degree bag. This works for me down to about -25. Tent heaters do come in handy in the morning while you are contemplating crawling out of your sleeping bag.

According to the web site they are pet friendly at the Holiday Inn if you decide not to camp.
Jason,
We have had this discussion before. I spend all week outside in the cold. I really have had my fill by Fri. Have fun camping.

Because you can't get enough of the smell of leaky gas tanks? Poor Quintin, he was busy Friday night. I was hoping that the red fuel cell from the delapidated shed was going to be his tank for the event :thumb-up:

one must inquire about the 4-door soft top 110, was that one of the famed beach runners produced by ecr out in the woods?

The pictures look like you guys had a blast! I will make it back one of these years...

Bruce said 101s are too big for the trails so they don't let them out anymore.

not to high jack the thread but from the pictures it appeared so, non-NAS tail lights, elevated hood, perfect body and 1-piece doors, what did the interior look like?

its hard to imagine 101's are too big when they have the orange Blazer on 42's breaking trail, from the pictures it looks like one 101 was in attendance this year, did it make it on the trails?

It had the TD5 dash. I have been witness to a Unimog on the trails one year... there was an "incident" that would preclude a 101 if memory serves me well.

ThePhotographer

Yeah it did actually very well on the trails with just snow tires. The only thing holding it back was clearance unfortunately. Maybe a few inch lift is in order :D

looking at that driver's side tire, I'd suggest a lift, and some taller rubber. I'm not sold on it yet, but it wasn't designed to target me as an audience.:)
