Emergency Brake Help 1980 Series III 109

I'm now using my 1980 Series III as my daily driver. I had an 2006 LR3 but was hit head on in December. She did her job - I am fine, but it was totalled. So, driving my old girl for a bit. My daily commute is 68 miles each way, and so far, thanks to my fantastic LR mechanic, so good. Yes, miss my seat warmers, heat, and radio, oh and going over 55, but must say I am happy.

My question is about my emergency brake. All of a sudden it won't work. Any suggestions for checking this out before my husband and I take her back to mechanic?

If it was a sudden failure and it won't work at all, I would examine the linkage. Maybe something broke. If it grabs a little but won't hold, then I suspect either oil contamination (from all the driving you've been doing lately) or it needs adjustment. There are adjustments in both the linkage and at the actuator mounted to the backing plate.

It's a pretty simple setup, but knowing what "won't work" means would help to provide suggestions for remedy.
