I have been to a couple key shops to get a extra key made but they don't have the key blank. Is there something special about these?

I had the same problem today, had to go to three places before they had a key blank. For my door keys I had to order the blanks from the UK. Just one of the plaeasures of driving a unique vehicle.:)

Most of the UK suppliers will sell a 3,4, or 5 barrel set with keys. I think it's about 20 bucks for the set. The 5 barrel set I ordered fits the doors and the ignition on my 2A

Ah but can Wallmart supply you with a set of tumblers that take the same key that will allow you to re-key your truck so one key fits the ignition switch AND all the doors, except a lift gate?

A common problem with older trucks that have made the safety upgrade to newer anti burst door latches is you are left with different keys for the ignition and for the doors.

The recession has been hard on the US based LR parts suppliers. It doesn't hurt to spend a couple extra dollars to help keep them afloat. The big box stores have put enough little guys out of business. I would just as soon not loose American LR parts specialists with their expertise on North American spec Land Rovers. You will not find that expertise in a UK based parts specialist.

Well said, especially when the difference between a Walmart key and a genuine one is $2.50!

TeriAnn,

Thanks for the positive note !

For all the adverse comments about parts etc. and various "pop up" vendors, not many offer the Bulletin Boards for folks to share their points of view and experiences on.

Keep up the good work !

I can see both sides. If all he needs is a key blank it doesn't make sense to order it and pay shipping when you can just go and have one made locally. I avoid walmart as a matter of principal so I'm not suggesting going there.

If you're ordering other parts anyway, just order a couple spare blanks while you're at it.

This really should be that hard......

TeriAnn,

Thanks for the positive note !

Even though I've been a contractor for BP for 14 years until they were bought by Allmakes last year I've always had a lot of respect for the folks at RN and all the work you have done to support LR enthusiasts. Especially in light of the recent national economy.

You guys have taken the extra step by hosting a forum which often can be a double edged sword. It takes work and cuts into overall profit. I respect that commitment and dedication to us enthusiasts. Especially considering how fickle we act most of the time in search of the almighty best ever price, regardless of part quality or service.

It is past time for me to say thank you for trying to provide quality parts, in spite of customer efforts to focus on junk pattern parts because they are the cheapest. And thank you for the freebee extras such as event support and this forum. I for one find it to be the best US based LR forum.
