Current GM brand alternator dead in the series IIa. Any recommendations for an alternator that I get at a typical parts store?

Pretty stock set-up rig. But it will have a radio, a rear work light, and possibly 2 auxiliary lights on the bumper/brushguard.

Why not get the same again? Easy fit and usually good price.

Hi Jim,

I am not really sure what specs the one in there now has. Wanted to start from a known point to make sure I had one with the correct specs to power the items I mentioned. Getting the same or similar one is would be the easiest I suppose.

I'd make sure I got one suitable to my electrical needs, not whatever was already in there.

Everything you need to know about 10si and 12si alternators can be found here on this webpage (http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/delcoremy.shtml)except how to mount them on your engine. As you already had one of them mounted on your engine, you can probably figure that part out, including what clocking will work best for you.

I started with a 63 amp 10si clocked at 9:00 but ended up replacing it with a 94 amp 12si clocked at 9:00 on my 2.5 diesel. It'd probably have been more convenient to go with an alternator clocked at 12:00 based on it's mounting spot on the lower left corner of the engine, but 9:00 still works fine for me.

Can you post a picture of what you have? Does it have any numbers or a tag on it? Did the current one keep up with what you have so far?

Edit: Mark, Did the 12si bolt right in place of the 10si?

I used a NAPA 1N-4011A with the Pangolin brackets. Lifetime warranty.

I have a web page covering the GM 3 wire alternators. (http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/Delco_Alternators.html)

You might find it of some help.

I am also thinking of upgrading the alternator on my IIa.

My question: What amp rating should I get? I currently only have the standard electrical items plus a cooling fan on the radiator and an electric fuel pump, but I will eventually add a 2nd battery charging system, off road lights, rear work light, refrigerator, on-board air compressor, and a couple of 12v outlets for miscellaneous things. I originally thought of the 63a 10SI but am now considering either a 78a or 94a 12SI.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David

TeriAnn's webpage is extremely helpful.

I just finished the installation of a Delco 10SI I bought at Advance Auto with lifetime warranty.

I have the one with the connector clocked at 12.
