On my S3, all new u-joint, the prop shaft seem both ok. 1/4 of turn of backlash front and rear. A noisy clunk only on the front shaft. I guess the probleme is in the axles; bearing? Shim? Is it a completed job?

1/4 turn? Thats a full 90 degrees. Uhhhh...I'm hoping for your sake that might be a stretch. Is that with both wheels stationary, and only ONE shaft held still? You're next steps should be to isolate the movement between front and rear prop shafts, and left and right axles. Pull the axle caps and lets identify which exact parts are moving, and which are not. You'll have far more control on letting us know what is moving, than we will in diagnosing from the internet. Ceteris Peribus

Welcome to the board by the way.

If the truck is in 4wd the front out put has built slop. This allows the shift on the fly feature. The front end has two more universals inside the swivels.1/4 turn is excessive. About an1/8 turn is ok considering, diff slop , spline wear, axle shaft universal wear, and drive flange/hub splines.

can you wiggle the pinion flanges?
