    Speedo and odometer stopped working

Before I start mucking around: my speedo and odometer have just recently stopped working. Its an 82 Series 3 rhd with a 200 Tdi so it has a diesel idle that may has shaken something loose. Is it typically the speedo cable needs to be reattached or replaced, or the speedo unit itself?

    Thanks,

Speedo cable ends can break off pretty easily. Easy fix to replace if the broken end is down near the tranny.

Sounds like your speedo cable has snapped. It's happened to me. The cause in my case was that the lubricant in the gauge itself had become very thick with age, or has been serviced with the wrong stuff, and so it eventually seized and snapped the cable, which broke at the gearbox end.
