Rear Windows not working

Both of the rear windows are not working and all the fuse are fine and have been replaced but have not worked. What could this possibly be?

rear windows not working

The rear windows on my disco worked intermittenly for awile
then **** the bed. I learned that a strong likely culprit is the
window lift ECU. (located behind the glove box).

I replaced it and it did the trick!

Thats not to say that the switch's are not bad, a easy/cheap fix.

But I'll be honest - the ECU is the most common reason for window
malfunction and its not real fun to replace (access to it sucks).
But certainly anybody with a little know how and alot of common sense
can take it on. (allow 4-5 hours) due to access and the learning
process of the disco's ins & outs.

if it is the ECU:
There are three screws holding the ECU on, three small hex nuts (easy to loose so be careful) I actually put a T-shirt underneath the unit so if I
dropped the hex nut, I would be able to retrieve.
The rear most screw is where the access gets to be a pain, Literally.

To give a list however of all the possible causes: -ECU
-window motor(s)
-switch or fuse(s)
-window regulator(s)
-the wiring itself
-Hope you dont loose a Kidney in affording a diagnosis
-I guessed based on what I heard about the ECU. -cheers

Before you go to the expense of a new Window Lift ECU, once you've removed yours, open it up. When you look over the soldering points you'll probably notice one that looks suspicious. If so, resolder it and you should be all set.


Go to Discoweb.org and check their tech section. There is a good write-up along with photos to help you out.

Also, you may be able to simply remove the inner section of the ECU without even going to the trouble of removing it from its mount under the glove box. If you can do that the job becomes even easier to perform.
