I went to get my Land Rover 109 working again after having a problem with grey sludge in the fuel line from gas with Ethanol. I got it running but it was running really slow. I put fresh gas in the fuel tank. I decided to pull the valve cover to adjust the valves only to discover that rods on 2 and 3 piston were bent. I read another thread that suggested pulling the head to get the valves checked. So I will go ahead and check it over. Anything else I should look at while I have the head off? Maybe replace the rings while the head is off?Anyone know a good machine shop in SE PA, DE, NJ area for Land Rovers?Rick

when the head is off, check the tappet slides and rollers to see if they got damaged.

I got my head done at RPM performance in Westwood NJ. Quick, and they did a good job as far as I can tell.

Look closely at you tappet and lifter , if the push rod is bent I would have to say the lifter assymby is too. You may want to redo the valves and seats to run unleaded.
