Hello!

I need to know the diameter of the hole that should be cut into a fuel tank to fit the Series style fuel level sender.

Anyone?

Hey Mark,

I'm making a CAD drawing to get an alumnium rear-mount tank for my 109". Any chance that's what this is and you would be willing to share so that I can stop mid-way through reinventing the wheel?

No--that's the one tank I didn't CAD up and have done when we did the huge group buy. I didn't figure there was enough demand to hit the volume discount from the custom manufacturer. The drawing is of the flat top panel of one style of tank that sits under the seat:

They look great!! Similar to my one off tank. Why not use a more modern, readily available and dare I say reliable sender? Compatibility can be achieved with resistors. They look beautiful BTW!!

You mean modern Rover sender or a non-rover unit with a 5-bolt SAE pattern?

For the pictured tanks, I was going to originally use the modern 5-bolt SAE setup and universally-available senders, but something made me not do it--I want to say it was that modern 5-bolt senders read opposite of the series-compatible senders (high ohms=full tank on one system and high ohms=empty tank on the other).

If you mean modern ROVER senders, then a bolt-on sender is easy whereas a cam-locking sender is a huge expensive hassle in aluminum.

Good to be back. After my less-than-minor "I hate this thing" attack, I've let it sit for a few months and now I'm back at it with renewed interest. Thank goodness I wasn't successful at unloading it!

I'm also glad to hear you are back. As someone who undertook a full ground up rebuild of a 1960 109 I can sympathize with you! I now understand why so many peoples sell off thier unfinished projects! In my case there have been sooo many things to fettle into place. I just got the 2.5Dt running last week and can see the light at the end of the tunnel :thumb-up: One thing that helped me was to try to do just one thing every day, which didn't always happen, even if it was just hooking up 1 wire. Since I'm unemployed that got to me and I started taking weekends off from the 109 and that really helped! With providence I might finish soon, by end of May for sure.
