2.5L Diesel Timing

Blowing major blackness out the exhaust. I have a manual on timing the 2.5l motor, but do I really need the timing tool/gauge? Can I adjust the injector pump without the magic tool?
Any help greatly appreciated.

I suppose you could try your luck but if you really want to nail the timing you will need the proper pins. I borrowed a set from a buddy and got the timing on my 2.5 NA bang on. Made a world of difference.

BrettThanks. That's a big help. I hope I can get the timing perfect. Know of any particular source I should go to to get the pins? Or what size the appropriate pin is?
