HI GUYS ALL CAPS IS BACK . TRYING TO START THE SERIES 3 AFTER ITS BEEN SITTING FOR YEARS , THE STARTER BAIRLY TURNS THE MOTOR OVER ,WHEN I TAKE THE PLUGS OUT AND THERE IS NO COMPRESSION IT TURNS LIKE CRAZY , I JUST HAD THE STARTER REBUILT AND THE PROBLEM IS THE SAME , I HAVE CHECKED ALL THE CABLES AND SANDED THE CONNECTIONS FOR NICE CLEAN CONTACT NO CHANGE , MY MECHANIC SEEMS TO THINK THE PROBLEM IS STILL IN THE STARTER . UNDER LOAD ITS NOT STRONG ENOUGH ,OFF THE MOTOR IT TURNS LIKE CRAZY, THINKING OF NEW SOLENOID AND CABLES ALL AROUND THEN SEE WE ARE TAKING THE STARTER BACK FOR A SECOND TIME TO SEE IF THERE MAY BE A SHORT UNDER LOAD , ANY THOUGHTS THANKS

YES NEW BATTERY I THINK I MAY HAVE BEEN UNDER SOLD , THERE IS STILL MAYBE 4 INCHES OF SPACE IN THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT ,

THEY DIDN'T SELL YOU A MOTORCYCLE BATTERY DID THEY? OR ONE OF THOSE BATTERIES THAT POWERS THOSE BARBIE OR GI JOE ELECTRIC KID'S JEEPS THAT YOU ALWAYS SEE ON AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEOS?

Most starter solenoids are easily bypassed by shorting the two main lugs with a screwdriver or something of the sort. Can be a quick and crude way of seeing if the solenoid is bad or not.

How long did it sit? Could there be some rust in one or more cylinders? Pour some marvel mystery oil in each one spin it by hand a few times and let it sit for a few days, than turn it over without the plugs in. It could be the ol' girl just needs to be broken back in! Or if not, I have found the Mean Green starter is a beast at turning these motors over.

OH MAN THAT WOULD SUCK.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE GETTING FUEL AND SPARK IN THE FIRST PLACE. IF YOUR STARTER IS TURNING WHEN IT SHOULD, THEN YOUR SOLENOID IS NOT THE PROBLEM. SOUNDS LIKE YOU AREN'T GETTING ENOUGH JUICE. WHAT DO YOUR BATTERY TERMINALS AND SOLENOID CONNECTIONS LOOK LIKE? IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE SO ALREADY, I WOULD CLEAN THEM AS WELL. IF YOU DO HAVE FUEL AND SPARK, YOU CAN TRY PULL/PUSH STARTING IT USING A CAR, A BIG HILL, SOME FRIENDS, OR THE LOCAL CLERGYMEN AND A HORSE (providing that after sitting so long your clutch is not stuck to the pressure plate and that you are able to engage/disengage it).

ALSO, THOUGH YOUR ENGINE MAY BE TURNING, I WILL HAVE TO ECHO JASON (albeit a little louder) FOR THE MARVEL MYSTERY OIL IN THE CYLINDERS. IT WILL HELP FREE UP THE RINGS ALLOWING YOU TO SQUEEZE MORE LIFE OUT OF IT AND SAVE YOU A LOT OF YELLING.

THANKS GUYS , WE TRIED BYPASSING THE SOLENOID AND IT DIDNT TURN OVER . WITH THE PLUGS OUT IT TURNS GREAT , BATTERY TERMINALS ARE GOOD , AFTER TRYING TO CRANK A FEW TIMES THE CABLES GET SO HOT THE CASING WANT TO MELT . AFTER READING THE FORUMS LAST NIGHT I THINK THE SOLENOID IS NOT ORIGINAL , IT HAS 2 LARGE POSTS AND 2 SMALL POSTS , ONE LARGE HAS THE BATTERY PLUSS 2 BROWNS THE OTHE POST HAS THE BLACK GOING TO THE STARTER AND THE RED WHITE GOES TO A SMALL POST AND ANOTHER RED GOES TO THE OTHER SMALL POST , I THINK I AM GOING TO TAKE THEM ALL OFF AND HAVE THEM MEASURED AND BUILT NEW WITH THE 2 GUAGE

PRESUMING THAT THESE AREN'T TINY WIRES GOING FROM THE BATTTERY TO THE SOLENOID AND THEN ON TO THE STARTER, THE WIRES AREN'T THE PROBLEM! THE HOT WIRES ARE A SYMPTOM OF EITHER A BAD CONNECTION OR A BAD OR OVERWORKED STARTER MOTOR!

THOUGH THE SOLENOID MAY NOT BE CORRECT, IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS WIRED CORRECTLY! PRESUMING THE SOLENOID IS LETTING FULL BATTERY VOLTAGE THROUGH TO THE STARTER, SOUNDS LIKE IT IS FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY!

YOUR STARTER SHOULDN'T DRAW SO MUCH CURRENT THAT THE WIRES GET HOT. EVEN LUCAS ENGINEERS WOULDN'T BE ALLOWED TO DESIGN A SYSTEM LIKE THAT. MY BET IS ON THE STARTER BEING SHOT. IF YOUR STARTER WIRES AREN'T AT LEAST ..OH 5/16 - 3/8 DIAMETER, THEN YOU NEED TO UPGRADE. IT WOULD BE NICE IF THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. THE FACT THAT THEY ARE GETTING HOT MEANS THAT THERE IS ALOT OF CURRENT FLOWING, SO YOU BATTERY AND CONNECTIONS ARE PROBABLY GOOD. MY BATTERY IS A BIT SHORTER THAN THE BATTERY TRAY TOO AND IT WORKS FINE. ALTHOUGH A POWERWHEELS BATTERY WOULD SAVE YOU ALOT OF WEIGHT AND YOU MAY GAIN A FEW MPG WITH THAT SO LOOK INTO IT AFTER YOU GET THIS PROBLEM SORTED.
CAN YOU CRANK THE ENGINE OVER BY HAND BY THE HAND CRANK OR COOLING FAN? YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO. IF YOU CAN'T THEN YEAH MAYBE THE ENGINE IS REALLY TIGHT. SPRAY SOME LUBE DOWN THE SPARKPLUG HOLES AND RUN IT FOR A FEW SECONDS TO GET 'ER JUICED UP.

Sound like you could have a ground issue with the motor. Do you have a ground strap on it? My truck has one from the starter mounting bolt to the frame. Sounds like the juice is getting to the starter just has no way to get back to the battery.
