On a RHD SIII - how have people mounted their license plates (US type)? There isn't enough room with the door hinge. Just curious as to how others have solved this odd but vexiing problem. Mine is taped inside the rear door window at the moment.

I made new holes and is is mounted on the left hand side (rear) of the tub.

can you cut the license plate to create a notch for the hinge? as long as it doesn't interfere with reading the plate number, I believe this is legal to do.

Mine's mounted on the opposite side, using a bracket that's held on via the tub mounting bolts. I was going to put a plate light on that side, but never got around to it. That was 10 years ago.

When I first bought my 109, it was a 5-door and the US plate was mounted over the UK plate using that bracket. Every time I opened the rear door, it would hit the US plate, so I moved it over to the other side.

Here's what it looks like:

Like everything on e-bay, it DOES look decent in pictures.

All of my Rovers have the plate on the left hand side.

I wonder if the right-side plate/plate light is RHD-specific.

Mine is currently just mounted to the right of the hinge so it doesn't interfere:

I really like Mark's bracket solution.

Just as a matter of interest, putting on license plates is a worldwide problem. Ours are too long for the space and we are not allowed to cut them, so there's this little edge that sticks out and gets caught on clay banks and shrubs. The front is little better because the plate is deeper than the bumper and so the bottom edge has been squashed under the front bumper.

My RHD had the plate light and plate on the left hand side. I attached my plate to the right just because I wanted to keep the UK plate........there was plenty of room.

Not a great angle, but you get the idea.

Looks good - I must admit I like the bracket solution as well. But yours looks just fine and will probably be what I do this weekend.
