Rovertek on the D90 board has a shop in that general area. Search for him on defendersource.com, or at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Rovertek/102768113153074

516-902-1001 is the number listed on his facebook page.
Quick google map says they're about an hour away.

Good luck!

I'm afraid I don't know any reliable Series mechanics on the East End. I'm using a general local mechanic, in Quogue, but he's not particularly knowledgeable about Rovers. What's the nature of the problem ?

I'm fairly far away, but always willing to help out. Unfortunately, he'd have to come to me.

any decent "mechanic" should be able to work through a series problem, no?

That's funny, I think the same thing. How come a professional auto mechanic can work on something complicated, but they don't want to touch something so rudimentary and dead-simple?

Probably because they'll have to charge the customer for their ACTUAL time instead of the WAY over-inflated repair times listed, by vehicle, in the Chilton's repair estimating book (http://www.chiltonestimating.com/Home/Index?ReturnUrl=%2f).

I also think when they hear " Land Rover" they automatically get into panic mode. I was talking to a very reputable transmission shop about posibbly rebuiling my gearbox etc. He said well Land Rovers ZFs blah blah..I said wait a second, this a 1969 Land Rover I am talking about. He said oh, drop it off lets break it down and see how she is and I will give you a price for everything including transfer case..lol. The deer in headlight thing I suppose..:) I am really curious about whats going on to cause "distrought". We been that way since the day we brought these things into our lives..lol ( I think)..

Problem is clutch related, I think we've turned the corner now and have the issue under resolve.

I appreciate all the follow ups, I still think we should have a data base for assisting Series owners who are unable to work on their own vehicles.

Clint has resuscitated the Birmabright Brotherhood (http://birmabrightbrotherhood.com/) and I've been trying to build up a comprehensive list of Series-specific garages/restoration shops & parts suppliers (Rovers North is literally the first entry in the database table) on SeriesParts.com (http://seriesparts.com). I've currently got 88 businesses listed and another 34 in my queue for vetting & listing, but I'm sure there are hundreds I've not stumbled across yet (submissions are _greatly_ appreciated).

So, we're trying to fill in that gap. :)
