I've got original light sockets and glass lenses on this IIa, but the sockets are getting too old and corroded to keep using. Bulbs quickly get stuck, or just won't contact at all with ground or power. I've cleaned them several times, but now the rubber seal around the edges is beginning to break down and get cut up from all putting the lenses in and out.

Problem is, I can't locate any new sockets that, at least seem to me, would allow the continued use of the original glass lenses. Am I missing something here at Rover's North? Or is there really no option?

I don't believe that our hosts, here, carry the old style lamps/bases.
They are available in the UK, however.

New - You can try...
http://www.vintagemotorspares.com/phdi/p1.nsf/supppages/hodge?opendocument&part=6
- or -
http://www.holden.co.uk/displayproducts.asp?sg=1&pgCode=010&sgName=Electrical&pgName=Lighting&agCode=0040&agName=Side+and+Flasher+Lamps

Used (domestic) - you can try posting a "Wanted" thread on this forum...
... or the same on the "Guns and Rovers" forum (in the "Parts is Parts" area): http://siteground237.com/~gunsandr/forumdisplay.php?6-Parts-is-Parts

Good Luck!... I'm partial to the glass lenses as well!

Oh - If you decide to post a "wanted" thread... I think it's always best to include a photo of exactly what you are looking for...

You can always try Moss Motors (http://www.mossmotors.com/) in Southern California. lots of British cars shared the same Lucas electrical parts.

Do you mean these?

Front beehive amber or clear turn signal are Lucas L594 and the flat glass marker lights are L488.
Triple-c.com also carries the bases, rubber (well, plastic really) trim rings and lenses for these reproduction. Our hosts seem to stock only the whole shebang.
Rear turn signal amber are Lucas L691, rear stop and tail are red Lucas L692.
Those are also available reproduction from triple-c.com, and a host of other online vendors.

The genuine Lucas ones you may be able to find used on Ebay either the US or UK version. Or maybe Neil has some.
As you know Lucas went out of business quite a long while ago.

Thanks... not sure why I don't see those glass ones when I go through the menus here.... strange. I looked for quite a while trying to find those. Thanks.

EDIT: I think I see why I never saw those on the web site -- I was looking for just the lamp, not the "complete assembly". I was only looking for the socket, so I kept clicking on the other items trying to find just the socket. I guess they only sell them with the glass?

They only sell the complete units, but if you called our hosts, they may have a couple with broken glass they would give you a discount on. There are other vendors out there, but since it is a product our hosts sell, and we are on a forum that they support and maintain, I feel it is very bad form to suggest other vendors.

They only sell the complete units,

It is kind of a shame that they don't just offer the sockets. Those are the parts that rust to the point where they become unusable. I've had to replace front and rear sockets at least once a decade.

I always rough up the surfaces of my lamp bodies and give them a good coating of marine-grade galvanizing paint (also inside the sockets) before I install them - even with new parts. They last years this way, even up here in Salt-Land.
I'll also add a top coat of Rustoleum Bright Galvanizing paint on the reflector areas - makes the lights nice 'n bright (or at least as bright as The Prince of Darkness will allow).

Tedw, that's not a bad idea. Along those lines, I have some aviation grade anti-corrosion spray that I used to use on my airplane -- probably good enough for an old Rover! I'll dig that stuff out.

Thanks, all.

I have saved money, cross-checking for use on other cars (mostly, but not necessarily just British ones), as Terriann mentioned, re: Moss.

Apparent good sources, based on their Web site info:
