I have put a NV4500 transmission mated to my series transfer case in my 73 88 and I am looking for ideas for the transmission tunnel. Does anyone have any pictures of their tunnel from a similar setup?

No pics, but the easiest thing is to make up a template from thin stuff, then reproduce it in thicker material or from fiberglass/epoxy.
I seem to recall at least one NV swap into a series, but I can't remember what they did for a tunnel.

Derek,

I have a NV4500 mounted to a small Block Chevy in a 66 Land Cruiser FJ 45. Don't know if a pic of the tranny tunnel would help. If it will I'll post one. underneath or in the cab?

Might be worth seeing the whole 45...... ;>)

I have one too. 1965 short bed with 3B diesel.

Derek: Can you show us a picture of what you are working with? It might be worth it for some of us to see what you are dealing with so we can maybe come up with some ideas.

This is what I am thinking of something like this . I would have the rear of the tunnel attach to the top of the seat box and I would make the transfer case levers longer

For the R190 install in the wife's 109 I made up a framework using thin angle and then fitted sheet metal to cover the framework. The angle was slit where it needed to bend, and the sheet metal was covered with vinyl with dynomat on the underside. Other angle was attached to the seat box and the bulkhead for the tunnel to attach. All held in place with screws.

Rob,

You must have recently picked that 45 up from Redline. Nice 45 for sure..... or should I say 1994 HZJ75 ;) FWIW, that's my old frame, suspension, and axles under that truck.

Derek: I think you are on the right track with your cardboard mockup. Just make sure you have enough clearance with the parking brake handle and the tunnel.

*RoverJohn,

Right you are. Ive followed the truck bit before Red Line conducted the sale. So do you live in Pagossa Springs? Frame is the strong one indeed, axles in it are? Ive been chasing some leaks from the NV4500 (that strange gear oil it requires @ $30/quart likes to find any possible way out, even casting porosity, (fixed with some application of Permatex super Black), small radiator leak, wind whistle etc.all fixed. Also the A/C was never connected, although everything appears to be there all I need is a wiring pig tale and check the A/C coolant. Altogether the final purchase came together nicely, the owner and I came to an agreeable arrangement with
Red Line being the intermediary. Its now the roommate to my Bug Eye 88 and a few other old vehicles. So did you know Paul before he started the resto in Pagossa? Did you own the 94 HJZ75 for long? The frame itself looks very solid as does the body. Suspension and shocks are nice and it rides very nicely for a serious truck. It handles the 2000 ft. climb I do to come up to park City(7200 feet) from Salt Lake(4200 feet). Small world! Could not duplicate it for the $$, even if I found a straight 45 to start.

Cheers,

Rob

Rob,

Here are some pictures of the 1994 HZJ75 which is now the frame, axles, and suspension for your 45. I owned and drove it for about 2 years until I parted it out to build a HZJ79. I do not and did not live in Pagosa but have known Paul for quite a few years now. He used to buy parts from me and the shop I used to work for all the time. Paul is a really good guy and I am very surprised he sold his beloved 45/75.

The axles you have are from that same truck which is a 94 HZJ75. Let me know if you need any more info on your truck..... I am fairly knowledgeable when it comes to Cruisers.

SLC you say.... definitely a small world. I just recently moved from there back to Colorado. I lived in Sugarhouse for almost two years and worked out in Tooele because the Cruiser shop I worked for in Colorado got bought out and we relocated to UT. Unfortunately, the shop closed down fairly recently but it is good to be back in Colorado. I have some good friends still in SLC. Are you involved with the Great Basin Rover club at all?

I will be heading back up to SLC here sometime soon as I still have quite a few vehicles up there. I have lots of Cruisers and a few of them are stored out in Heber at a buddy's barn. I'd love to check out that 45 of yours as I never got to see it once Paul finished it.

Derek: Sorry to hijack your thread. I had another thought for you: hit up "bluebomber" here on this forum for some pictures. Matthew works at Advance Adapters and has a 88" with 350/SM465. He had to make some tunnel modifications and I am sure he would share some info with you.

Derek,
Post a pic of the tranny when it's in.
John,

Great to hear some history on the 45. I sent you a PM.

Cheers,
Rob
