    Don't Panic!... (yet)...

Sometimes it can be a little fiddly.
    Is the engine running?
Try the usual "sticky gear" remedies...
    - drive a bit (forward & back) as is & retry
    - be firm with the transfer case (red) stick
    - jiggle the 4X (yellow) stick
    - etc

    It should free ^up^...

If the yellow knob is down you will be stuck in 4wheel drive, not low. Try pulling red back and lifting yellow? No go? maybe something stuck underneath. Climb under and look around take some WD40 or the like and spray on the mechanism, or at least clean everything off.

Also, just to clarify, the "trigger" for the yellow-knob release is when the Red stick is all the way back - towards the seat box. Not when pushed forward.

Based on the gear alignment... the red stick may not immediately seat in the back position completely - failing to trigger the yellow stick release. Thus the slight movement forward/back to get the t-case gears aligned. Hopefully that makes sense.
