Greeting from Great Britain and another Landy nut!

Hello all,
I've been lurking/looking for a while and thought I would join the gang.

I currently have a 1955 86" Series one as my daily driver which is a bit abused!

and a LHD 1963 109" IIA Forward Control (FC).

The 86" I bought as my first car aged 18 when I joined the Army and have kept ever since.

The FC was bought as project from a junk yard in France and is nearly finished. I am just sorting the paperwork to put it back on the road here in the UK. I've had to do everything ID wise working back from the Chassis (frame) number; 0006 off the production line!

I've also had a '49 80" with a V8 fitted, another 86", 2 x 107" pick ups, a '69 IIA 109 pick up, a '72 Series III 88", a few of Range-Rovers (TACR 2 and ambulance included), Freelanders etc and both LHD and RHD 101" GS's. Loads of photos on my Facebook- feel free to browse!

It's my (limited) understanding that those were designated as series IIB not Series IIA? Is this incorrect?

Hi Mark,
"IIB or not IIB? That is the question…."
From '62 to '66 they were IIA 109" Forward Controls.
In '66 they made a few mods, including lights, axle widths, and wheel base (to 110") and they became IIB Forward Controls.

After 18 years in the Army I wanted something that looked like it came out of the factory as a "civilian" version; hence the Pastel Green or Light Green, and limestone wheels. I sprayed the interior in limestone as wheel to give it a lift as a camper/family truck.

I forgot to say, I have done them all up myself!

Most of them while I was still in the British Army in between tours in hot places!

Since then I have done the LHD 101 which I sold in France and the IIA FC.

Brilliant, parksy! Nice examples! I too, turn my own wrenches and have no skin on my knuckles as proof. I have concentrated on MG's and Triumphs up to this point, but bought a terribly abused 1971 Series IIa in early December and have been putting the children of the owners of Rovers North and Atlantic British through college ever since. I live at an elevation of 6000' and work at 4400' so going to work is a joy. Coming back up the mountain less so. I am now deaf, live in fear of being rear ended by mopeds, and still can't downshift into second without grimacing. And every time I go into the garage and see my truck, I smile. I am an idiot, and in a club where only idiots are welcome. Sorry to automatically categorize you as an idiot, but...well...never mind. Nice trucks.

Drivers of series rovers give up on putting sound systems into a series truck, there is no amplifier loud enough to drown out the road noise a series truck makes, yes shifting into 2 gear can hurt, the fear of rear end collisions is a real factor if you have taken a series truck without overdrive onto the highway in Connecticut, and I would add that the looks other drivers, (read distracted drivers) can give you when seeing you slowly, slowly drive through town, is down right hysterical,

The Landi-bar is just across the border from South West France, in Spain. Near to where I lived for the last few years, after leaving the British Army. We have since moved back to Britain and need to find a Landy bar here!

Been busy on the rear brakes of the FC; both wheel cylinders changed as they were beyond economic repair.

The drums and shoes are in great condition though.

I have had to bite the bullet and buy a new ENV front RHS half shaft; ouch that hurt- they are like rocking horse poo, even this side of the pond!

Mobile next week for the MOT or yearly department of transport roadworthiness test.
Lots of fingers crossed- that will the first time it's been roadworthy in over 15 years, maybe 20 or more!
