Well. I am on the road after fixing the great many of the major of issues left from neglectful previous ownership.

The speedo swings from -30mph to Warp 7 when moving so it obviously needs some TLC. Anyone with experience? I will change the cable and hope that fixes it. But I have little hope as a binding speedo cable makes a noise not unlike a yak in heat. It is most likely the gauge.

I'm not even sure how a Rover speedo works and a cursory internet search yields nothing. On a rebuild of a TR3 I sent all gauges to West Valley Instruments and they did a stellar refurb but it was spendy. I am hoping a guy with a tiny screwdriver can affect a repair.

Also, I do not like not having an ammeter and tachometer. Anyone add of these jewels?

Thanks.
David

Cable should do the trick.
Hall effect.
Tach and ammeter available from Smiths. Gaugeguys.com sells them.

I have fixed mine in the past by winding the spring a bit more. Gently pull off the needle while holding the spring disk on back. Wind it a tiny bit and push the needle back on. It should help with the bouncing if the new cable doesn't. Just don't wind it too much as it may not want to move.

Thanks lumpy! That is exactly what I needed (if the cable is not the cause).

Thanks for the article. I have an odometer that didn't work, so when I start the restoration I'll have a reference.
