Here in Nevada there is a stipulation for "Old Timers." That is a car over 40 years old does not need a smog test if it is driven less than 5000 mile per year. Cars before 1966 are free and clear of all regulation and can be driven as much as desired without need of a smog test.

I registered my 1971 Series IIa 88 as an "Old Timer" because I will probably not drive it over 5k, but if I do I will need to smog it.

Long lead in to a simple question. How many of you have passed a smog test?

Thanks
David

Double check and make sure that the laws aren't different for a 'foreign made' vehicle. When I had a Rover in California the DMV tried to tell me that the Rover had to be smogged. But the years for that requirement were different for domestic and foreign vehicles. There may be no difference in Nevada but it might be good to check.

If it's in tune it should pass any emissions test. IDK about NV but here in MD if you spend 400 clams to get it into compliance, and it still fails, you can get a waiver that lasts two years.

Is that when they plug in their computer to the OBDII thing and check that your catalytic converter isn't killing polar bears?

Good one! Haven't actually had anyone say theirs passed a smog test. Once I get it back on the road I'll see if it passes.

I passed the CO one with my 88 and just got the same type of plates on my 1972 Dormobile and no test was required this time. I will second then in good tune comment they will pass as they adjust the standards to the time.

Good luck

I did it 11 years running in Arizona on an 88 with a Rochester. As I was only tuning by ear it sometimes required a 2nd run through but never anything more than tweaking timing and twiddling the carb screws.

The really fun one was the 101.
