My 60 2.25l engine always seems to take awhile to start. I was wondering if perhaps my battery was too small or if that even matters. We are in So Cal so it is pretty much warm here all of the time (sorry) so I don't know if that matters. It is a 690 amp @ 32 degrees cold cranking amp battery. Any thoughts??
Thanks in advance!!

Before you assume its the battery I would check and clean all your connections - especially your grounds.

Does it take a while because it is turning over slowly? Or is it spinning plenty fast off of the starter but just takes awhile to 'catch'? If the latter it could need a tune up or timing adjusttment

Another thing to consider. If it sits for any length of time (like 2 weeks or more) consider a battery cut off switch or pull the + cable from the battery, as they can discharge through a number of places even when the car is stored.

Cheers,

Thanks guys. It does turn over pretty fast. I do keep the battery terminal unplugged, but will get a tender charger or whatever they are. I will check the negative leads and clean them and that may be it. I will also change the filter as it runs on an electric pump, which seems pretty strong. Will let you know how that turns out
Thanks again!!

If it turns over fast but takes a long time to start, I'd suggest looking elsewhere for the issue. Leaky carb bowl or float valve perhaps. Timing, coil, etc. Probably not battery though.

I had a starting problem a few months ago, battery kept dying because of over cranking. The battery ended up needing almost a quart of water and the points gapped properly. Now the only time it doesn't want to start is when it is 10-15 below zero, but is still usually will. Have you checked the voltage by any chance?

Checking points, coil, etc.... will follow up thanks!!

Just saying,Interstate (green batteries, picture of nascar on battery) make awesome batteries, use them in the Rover, Vovlo, and daughters car Nissen.
