What is your views: RN is checking to see if the right one was shipped to them. Theirs looks very correct to the picture on there site.

1) Will this keep the engine cool enough?

2) Is this a correct replacement?

3) Does any one have a picture of there original radiator to compare too?

That looks a pretty much the same as the radiator that came with my '73 109 with an Euro-spec 2.6, though my top hose connection was short and straight and not bent like that. Mine is a 4-row radiator.

Replacement parts nowadays are never as good as original. Quite often, they are useless fakes (like your radiator). Not the fault of the vendors, it's the suppliers.
If it were me, I'd have the original re-cored at a good radiator shop. It will keep the original dimensions and appearance.

I'm pretty sure mine (that looks the same) is the one that originally came with my 109 and I find it to be pretty useful. I can't remember if mine originally had a bent upper rad hose connection like that or not--I had some hose port re-configuring done when I installed the 2.5NAD.

The original brass top rads. were discontinued many years ago.
As with a lot of parts on older vehicles, not just Landrovers, compromises have to be made. The ones RN currently sell, is the style used on the later IIa's and Series III's (same as factory specs.) . If you are concerned with originality, the best course of action would be to have the original rad. recored (as suggestion above). The PLC513 Rads. that RN currently sell perform well on both early and late Landrovers.

Years ago I bought a replacement radiator for my 65 109 that looked just like the one you have. I needed a different top hose because of the difference. I also - when I had the time - took my original radiator to be recored to keep as a spare and to be able to go back to the original if I chose to.
I never had an overheating issue with either radiator and it worked great. That being said, the fins rusted on that radiator quicker. Not overnight but within a few years - and I was in San Diego at the time . . .
So now I just swap out the radiators if and when I need to.

The plan is to replace next Tuesday...

Then repair the old one. This one has over heated, at one time, as you may be able to see that the top of the radiator is pushed up

Oh. I didn't realize that the replacement radiator pictured has plastic tanks. That would have made relocating my hose fittings impossible.


The corroded fins on your original tank are easy for a radiator shop to replace--they're only held to the tubes with solder. Of course, they should replace the tubes when they rebuild it as well.

Probably worthy of mention that you should make sure the cap's pressure relief feature is working properly and that the cap is has the correct pressure rating so your radiator doesn't explode in times of trouble.

I have a Euro spec 6 in my 109 and I can take pictures tonight if you still need them. I will also be driving her to work tomorrow so if you do not get this until then no worries. Could always step out and take a picture if it helps. I doubt they had two different rads for the 6 cylinders when your head is the only real difference????

I believe the muffler style air intake and the fact yours was a NADA model. Mine was imported and is right hand drive. Hope it helps.

Just my opinion. I like the brass top rad. My ex-mod came with it, and during the re-build I decided to have a shop refurbish, it. It looks and works great. I did purchase and have a replacement from our hosts, passed it onto a friend who now uses it on his 88. The replacement rad. our hosts have are just fine, no worries.
