I have been gathering parts to get the last non-working electrical item on my truck working- the choke warning light. I've got the right choke cable mounted in the sleeve above the ignition, and have a NOS cable mounted choke switch.

The only component I don't have yet is the otter switch. It would seem however that my head is from a later truck (the engine has a tag saying it is a rebuild from '86) and it does not have the spot machined out to hold the otter switch- it isn't blanked out, but just smooth. Other than just grounding out the wire in lieu of the otter switch, is there an alternative location for an otter switch?

Thanks

Not all engines had this feature- Not sure if it was earlier or later engines that just had the light wired directly to the switch on the cable then to ground so that the light illuminated whenever the choke was pulled without regard to engine temperature.

The otter stat was deleted from use from around 1975, the switch was moved to the cable and thus the Otter stat. was not required to make the choke light work. Do you have the cumbersome original choke set up on the early IIa's ? If not the later IIa's and Series III choke light switch will work as it is activated by the choke cable only.

Les and Mark- Thanks for the great info. I will be re-installing the normal Series III cable mounted choke switch and grounding it....it will be just a "choke on" light rather than a cold start light.
