Transfer case antirattle spring????

OK, in my futile quest for a quieter truck (insert eyeroll here), I got a hold of one of these anti=rattle springs for my transfer lever; http://www.roversnorth.com/ProductDesc.aspx?code=243714&type=0&eq=&key=it

That rattling drives me nuts.

Anyone know how that mounts?? I must be missing something. There's a groove in the back of the ball but that spring certainly doesn't fit in there. I was thinking maybe it just gets wired on with bailing wire or something???

The spring just sits over the groove in the ball, then the L-shaped bracket with the hole in it drops down over it. I think the step you are missing is the need to remove the L-shaped part first.
