Hello everyone!
I could use your expertise to better understand what might be going on with my '73 Series 3 88.
My wife and I just moved from Iowa to Phoenix. Just before leaving Iowa I updated the points to Pertronix and put in a new coil and the Rover was purring like never before and comfortably reaching 52 MPH (which is plenty fast for me).
Like an any dedicated Rover owner I spent roughly half the value of the vehicle to have it transported to Phoenix because I can't wait to drive it in the desert. The guy who picked it up seemed well versed on how to handle it while loading as did the guy who dropped it off while unloading. In between the Rover was dropped at a depot, loaded on a truck for the trip cross country, and then unloaded at another depot. I have no visibility to how it was handled other than to know there are now grooves in the paint on the hood and the hood was slammed shut without properly fitting the hood brackets resulting in it being jammed, etc.
Fast forward to tonight. I went out started the Rover, let it warm up, then took it for a spin around the neighborhood. Instead of topping out somewhere around 52 in 4th gear as in the past, tonight it would get up to maybe 25 and sounded so loud that I thought the engine was going to blow. In fourth tonight it was moving about as fast and sounding as loud as it previously did when I was at high rpm's in second gear just prior to shifting to third gear. I am wondering if this group might be able to help me brainstorm what could have happened? I don't know why anyone would have been under the hood in the first place (other than possibly to disconnect the battery), could they have done something to cause this speed issue? I don't know how it was tied down on the car hauler, could that have caused the speed issue? Any thoughts you have are much appreciated! Thank you!
