I recently had my cylinder head off and new valves put in due to a burned valve on the #1 cylinder. (Series IIA 88", 2.25 petrol engine.) I had a reputable mechanic do the valves. I've reattached the head, set the valve clearances and turned it over for a few seconds to get oil flowing. It does turn over fine. I'm wondering if anyone has advice about getting it started up and running in the new valves. I know I should check the head bolt torque and the valve clearances again in a while. Any other thoughts?

Sounds like you are ready to fire it up! You've torqued the head bolts, set the valve clearances. You might get a two foot long fuel hose (or equivalent) to use as a stethoscope once it starts. You'll want to listen around the manifold and along the base of the head for any leaks. After running then check your oil and look for any coolant and your coolant for any oil. Good luck!!
