All, just a bit of a sanity check.... For a '64 2a with positive earth, does the engine need to be running to get te headlamps to work, or is it just that the key in the ignition needs to be all the way on and the outer bezel needs to be rotated to the third clockwise position? I cant remember what the exact combination was from my previous one and am chasing some ghosts one the headlights.... Thanks!

It has been a while but IIRC the lights should work without the key being on.

Jim is right about this. The headlamp part of the switch is independently powered from the ignition switch. Power is supplied by an always hot brown wire. If it helps, I have a drawing of the connectors on the back of the switch and a list of what each connector is supposed to do.
