Cheers, I am timing my 2.25 with a strobe light. I know to disconnect the vacuume advance at the carb, and then plug. My question is does one plug the inlet at the carb? Or just let it vent. Thank you, cheers,

You want the vacuum advance disconnected while checking the timing and you don't want the vacuum system pulling in a bunch of air. So I unplug it at the carb and let the line to the distributor "dangle." The line doesn't really need to be plugged.

I then hold my thumb over the fitting at the carb while checking the timing.

Slomo, so you are really preventing air from entering the carb with your thumb. Seems like I could disconnect the line, at the dizzy, and plug it so one would not have to use the thumb, yes?

Yes, block the line to the carb, a golf tee works great.

Thank you mates, I lost my old 20 year old timing light (Snap-0n) and just got a new craftsman, and cannot wait to use it. Thanks for the input,,

I "think" so. I always wear disposable rubber gloves so I think the vacuum makes a good seal. YMMV
