Recommisioning a Series IIa

New Rover owner here. Recently purchased a 65 Series IIa left hand drive Diesel. The vehicle came without a motor and just recently scored a replacement. The replacement is a series III diesel that looks to be in decent shape and will do some minor maintenance, install it and hope for the best for now.

The first question among many. The vehicle has the original Series IIa transmission which took the 9" clutch. The motor came with a 9.5" clutch. I believe that the release bearings are different between the two. Will the 9.5" Series III clutch work with the Series IIa release bearing? Or will I need to find a Series IIa flywheel?

Second question. Does anyone know of a side exit diesel exhaust manifold laying around? My current exhaust is set up for that and the motor came with a down exit exhaust manifold.

You're gonna have a pretty solid case of sticker shock when you start trying to find parts for this. I can spot several hundreds of dollars worth of NLA/unobtainable items that are missing in this picture alone. I think that side exit manis are available somewhere. Try RN first and then maybe the overseas suppliers like Craddock and Brit-Car. You can use the 9.5 no problem as long as you have the correct pressure plate and as for the release bearing, I am no help as it's been twenty years since I had to worry about that on my diesel.

On the IIa the release bearing is part of the gearbox front cover, the Series III has a throw out fork.

I am use to pricing for Austin Healey's and cars of that sort so i am not too shocked by what I have found so far. The engine came cheaply so that is a bonus.
