    Valve Setting

I'm about to set the valves on my four cylinder petrol using the rule of nines. However, I'm not quite sure how to being when I've just installed a new valve train and all the rockers are loose and all valves are closed. Any guidance would be appreciated.

This is one of those times when the green bible comes in very handy. You'll have to determine TDC on #1 cylinder (intake stroke) and partially tighten down the intake rocker until the valve starts to open. Repeat for the exhaust valve (#1 TDC exhaust stroke) and then repeat on rest of cylinders. Always make sure the cylinder you are working is at TDC when tightening the rockers. Once all the rockers are have been roughly seated go back through the entire process for final adjustment.
