I am working on reassembling my 69 Series 2a 109 LWB. I bought the leaf springs off a guy last year when I purchased his Frame. I believe the springs are the 8+2 springs. I purchased the Britpart shocks online and I'm trying to fit it all back together and am having a hell of a time. If I fit the springs first then the shock is too short and won't extend long enough to mount.

Am I missing something or do I just have the wrong hardware?

I'll pull the part numbers when I get a chance.

Thanks.

Sounds like there is a definite possibility that either the springs or shocks are nor correct for a long wheel base.

Compress the spring?

Are these regular springs or parabolics? Also, you say "8 +2"...I presume the "+2" is supposed to add 2" of lift. If they are a +2 spring than most likely your standard shocks are too short which would explain why they won't fit (extend) with the springs installed but fully relaxed. When I swapped to parabolics I had to go w/ longer shocks to compensate.

Parabolic springs will make the truck sit higher. I fitted RM 2 leaf rears, and 2 front on my 88. It is very soft in the sense that it articulates well and moves easily. And the truck sits higher, not much but a little, and I have Old man Emu shocks, the whole arrangement fit up nicely, although sadly the truck sits lower on one side by about an inch and a half.
I will consider refitting some 3 leaf rears and 2 leaf para's from our hosts as soon as I finish paying everything I make to my kids college fund.

Sounds like just a regular 10 leaf pack. Either needs to compress the spring a little to fit them or get longer shocks.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think I am going to try and sell the springs I got and go with a more standard set. This is pickup and in hindsight won't really have the load over the back axle that would requite the heavier springs. I believe the current rear ones are essentially these - http://www.paddockspares.com/279678-r-spring-lwb-rear-8x2l.html

The rear shocks still look short.

Should i ditch the heavier springs? I think the longer 1 ton shocks may work but should I still get different springs to make sure my ride isn't crazy stiff? I have the ex mod shackles. But the frame I am transferring too is a civilian frame.

What I have now -

It's a matter of your opinion but I would guess you will find the HD springs a little stiff unless you plan on loading it up on a regular basis. You can remove the helpers and that will...eh hum...help. You will probably be happier with a regular spring shackle instead of the military shackle if you have a civi frame. Not sure what shocks you're trying to install but the stock style are short to begin with. You can go with OME or procomp or find another brand that will fit.
