Charge warning light stays on with vehicle parked

    I have a 1974 model 88 which I bought new in 1974.

When I shut the motor down, the charge light comes on, and stays on even with the keys in my pocket. This then causes the battery to lose it's charge.

What might be a probable cause of this issue? I hate to just start changing parts until I find the fault.

Would appreciate any insights you might have, or any trouble shooting steps you might suggest.

    Regards,

    Bill

Alternator is bad, presuming you have an internally-regulated alternator installed.

The new alternator did the trick. Back on the road. Thanks again Mark.
