View Full Version : 2.25 diesel sits crooked in new frame!!!

Hi guys,
Well, its not crooked, it is slanted down in the front! The transfer-case / trans is angled up, the front of the engine is pointing slightly down.
It is a fresh engine in a new 88"galvanized frame with new motor mount rubbers all around- what gives?
I used the diesel mounting pads on the engine-they are about 1.250 " thick, as are the transmission pads.

Also, the rear axle springs are holding the axle too far from the frame so I cant install the shock absorbers or the check straps! Will the body scrunch it down enough when it is installed. or will I need longer shocks and straps? The springs are stock type and the bolts that hold them to the frame and shackles are loose in their mounting spots (the springs arent bound up).

I had that problem on my 109 years ago. I believe the weight of the body on the chassis will resolve the problem with the shocks.

As for the engine angle, that angle is not really fixed until it's bolted up to the rest of the drive train. Once bolted up there should be no way that the engine and transmission could be at separate/different angles.

Yes,you will need the weight of the body for the stock shocks to fit.

Maybe try shiming your engine up with some washers.

Thats what I did, jacked up the front of the engine and slid some slotted washers between the mount and the block to bring it up a bit. I think the jig that they used to weld the mounts to the frame must have slipped and the mounting pads got welded into the frame a tad too low! It now sits about level.
