Hello all,

I have a 1964 88 with the threaded studs and double tapered lug nuts. I've read on many web sites that it is important to get the torque right on these nuts but can't actually find a number. The series 123 site says the torque is particularly important but omits this small detail, they do list the torque for the splined studs at 75-85lb ft.

Does anyone have a torque setting for the double tapered nuts on threaded studs? ....and where did you find it?

Many thanks!!!!

According to my repair manual it's 75-85 lb-ft. Splined or not the torque value is for the thread size to my knowledge

75-85 lbft torque. I'm one of those **** retentive people who carry a torque wrench in the truck to tighten lug nuts. Well, that and for field repairs. It is important that when you get tyres mounted that you have the person writing the work order to write the torque spec on the work order. Workers tend to look up the spec for Land Cruisers which is a lot higher. I once couldn't remove lug nuts off my truck because they were tightened to land Cruiser specs and my wrench wasn't long enough for me to loosen them.
