Just putting back together my Series 2a 109 NADA prop shafts with new U Joints and the Front Prop shaft spline end is missing the protective cap that goes in the middle of the yoke saddle keeping most of the junk out of the spline area. Photos of my rear prop shaft with cap (1st phot) and front shaft without (second photo). Any ideas where to get one of these caps or another solution? Hosts do not have them. Only other option is new prop shaft but would prefer not to do that since the prop shafts are in very good condition besides cost. Any help appreciated!!

any mid-budget machine shop should be able to nail that without much effort, take the good one to one of them and ask!

Or a truck supply company that makes and rebuilds prop shafts.

Solved!! Thanks all for the great inputs and solutions. I had to find and travel to big city for gear and axle shop in Fort Worth. They welded a cap from another shaft on it and voila it is done. Only thing they forgot to do was drill a hole in the cap like my other drive shaft has. Any problem with not having the hole??

Les-I hope your retirement is going well- great to see your post!

Now a few more parts to put on and then off to paint next week. Still need to get it started after engine and trans rebuilds once I finish connecting the replacement loom to the dash. All right after paint unless a miracle happens this weekend.

Thanks for the help!!

VIN 34300362A. I am second owner, purchased it out of the original owners barn in New Mexico. Had been sitting about 15 years at the time as he had parked it after sliding off the road and contacting a tree in a snow storm. Engine seized and truck full of mice *****e and smell. Engine and trans rebuilt by a shop and I had some friends help me put it in. Photos got out of sync-apparently I am worse at posting than I am mechanicking.

Photo from the barn the day I purchased 1339513385

Present day- final prep before it goes to painter 13393

Ed,
The hole is to allow the spline to breath. As the axle moves up & down the shaft compresses and expands, like a pump, and that is possibly why the original end went missing ,if it was full of grease and the hole blocked, it could blow the end out.

Looks like I better pull it off and drill a hole then. One step forward and two back!! Thanks for the input.
