signs of early viscous coupler lock up...is doom coming....can I avert disaster?

Hi.


New tranny and engine by the previous owner....5k miles ago. Just got a 1993 LWB. My guru mechanic/indy felt that:


" it is showing early signs of viscous coupler lock up"...


What could this mean....can synthetic fluids (possible?) delay this for a long, long time?

LT230....how big a deal is one of these conversions.

Can one get stock units out there rebuild/core exchanged (cheap?)?
