Clock and remote question....

First of all I have a 1997 Discovery. Tonite all of a sudden the clock quit illuminating. Any ideas?? Also, I purchased a second remote for locking and unlocking my rig. It is the exact remote I have (matching numbers and all). Does any one know the exact way to program it to my Rover? The programming instructions I received are not correct.
