Stupid Question

I've owned my Series III for about a year now and have just recently started thinking that the tired need replacing. However, these are either old or British numbers (7.50 x 16), and no tire place around here has any clue what I'm talking about when I tell them the tires I need. Anybody know the equivalents in numbers the tire guys will understand?

7.50X16 means that the tire is 7.5 inches wide and to be fitted on a 16" rim/wheel. This does not give you a hight or how tall the tire is but I think it was close to 32" tall.
The closest I came to this size is a 235/85/16 and is a common truck tire. I made the mistake and placed an order for 265/75/16 tires. They are about the same size in hight but are about an inch wider. I had to adjust the wheel stops so they would'nt rub against the front springs at full lock. I've heard the 235/85/16 size to be a good fit without adjustment.

If your tire company has never heard the term 750/16 then they're either very young or very incompetent. Find yourself another tire shop.

But what LH said...235/85R16 is a good fit.

If you do a search on this site under Michelin you should find alot of information under the post "109 and Michelins" and "tires...what are my options.

I prefer the 7.50x16 if you can get them but they can be difficult. Check out the posts I mentioned. Good luck.

the 7.50.16 was the old bias ply truck tyre (rides stiff as a buckboard) and not much in the handeling dept. either, the 235.85.16 is a steel belted radial tyre and what a difference it will make to switch to radials they ride so much smoother and handle so much better you will think you have a new LR.....

You'd be hard pressed to find a dimentional difference between 7.60x16 and 235/85/R16. On paper, they are identical. Value for money, I like the Dunlop Radial Rover RT (as close as you can get to a BFG MT) the best, and have bought 2 sets in the past year.
I do have a set of 235/85s BFG ATs on a 109, and can't say they're worth the extra money. As others have said, they are a good fit on a series, and Radial ply does ride so much nicer.

I agree with Jim- it wasn't THAT long ago this was a common size everywhere. If your tire place doesn't know what that size is then I'd find a decent place that does. They sould like the sort of place that will only fit "what the book says" anyway. I don't know if you have an 88 or a 109 but you can use anything from a 215-75-16 up to a 235-85-16 depending on what you are doing and what you expect from a tire. LWB LRs generally have a 32" tire tall though. SWB came with anything from a 28.5"-32".
