Was this housing originally from a Series IIa or Series III? Can't seem to identify where it originated. I have the series IIa workshop manuals but the fan/heater core setup looks different than what is in my vehicle. I have a case of the Hybrids so its tough determining what is original and what is not....especially since I'm still new to the rover community.

You can see the air hose that connects from the blower motor/fan housing around into the heatercore....

Late 2a and 3 are the same.

Looks just like mine and are still available new!
"Smiths" is the manufacture.

Ok I did find them new on the host site. Really not looking to pay $170 but maybe I will find a used one. I really need the motor and fan as my fan was brittle and dryrotted....cracked and fell apart.

Moss sells the motor and I think may have a fan too. I did mine a few year ago now. Look at an MGB and you'll find a lot of Land Rover electrics.
There was a LUCAS epidemic in the 1970's.

Thanks! Very useful info.
All the MGB fans I saw on ebay, the blades went in the oppsoite direction than a LHD series. So the MG fan blade would work for a RHD, not a LHD. The motors like exactly the same. The motor polarity is reversable too.

W.W. Grainger stocks a 12v blower of similar dimensions and CFM rating. The output portion has a smaller diameter than the Smiths unit so you have to use a collar the fit the original LR hose. At < $40 it's an inexpensive alternative.

One of my T-shirts is a Lucas spoof, featuring the logo and below it:
"Prince of Darkness"
"A gentleman does motor about after dark"
I think the quote was a reference to him not feeling that cars needed lights, but do not quote me on that, and I have not seen anyone that cited an actual source for the quote, but it does make a fun T-shirt.

Switching the polarity, when used in conjunction with the front vents, is not unlike A/C.
Well, if you do that during the winter that is... :p
