Got a chance to lay out some sap lines this weekend up north - what better excuse to use the Rover? Enjoy a few shots...it was the perfect vehicle for getting around a large farm...
ps - I now have a lot more respect for maple syrup!

Collecting and making maple syrup is damed hard work but worth it. Just wait until the time comes to find a leak in the lines or haul the sap to the sap house and feed the evaporator wood unless you have a gas fired one. Then you really know you've done something. I'm jealous!

i would gladly quit my job here in L.A. and work for parts from rovers north and a warm bed in that shingled house, if you need another hand.
i guess my wife might have a thing or two to say about that though
but let me know:D

I've been doing it the old (read 'hard') way for 25 years. I have neighbors begging me to tap their trees so they can have the Currier & Ives look for their property. I never had one call me up and ask me to string tubing all over their yard. I still enjoy cutting, splitting and stacking wood, but I'm small time, 160 buckets, 3 1/2 cords, 45-50 gallons of syrup, 8 cases of beer and 3 bottles of single malt.

Terry and Jason,
Tapping trees with your Rover, boiling down the syrup, and sharing samples with the Editor would make a great story in the Rovers North News :) Email or PM me if you're interested.

Jeff, you made me laugh. A few years ago Mark used to send out these cute little half pint tins of syrup in a package of parts (I guess it didn't hurt to spend 20k that year with RN) My wife got all indignant, and asked if I mailed rover parts out when I mailed my syrup. Yes, I still have the tin, and,so far, it's still unopened.

hey I'd be more than happy to take more pictures/post syrup progress as we begin tapping. (we just laid out lines/nailed them up this past time)
on another note - can I use syrup in my differentials?

Yes it is possible but remember to brush frequently or your teeth will fall out!

ok we're boiling right now and there's about 30 gallons so far- it will probably be an 80-100 gallon year! Let me know if anyone is interested in some. Ideally I would give this away to Rover folk but it's not really mine to give so I'd be more than happy to get people pricing if you're interested :)
I'll take some! How much for a pint or two Bost?

for those that haven't paid for the syrup I shipped - please take a moment to send me a check.
for those that have paid me and I haven't sent the syrup yet - I'm on it! My truck was parked at a friend's for a bit with the syrup in the back....life in the city (no parking). I'll be shipping it tomorrow....
