I have purchased Land Rover part number NRC 4282 PDWA valve. Does anybody have this valve installed in their late model Series Land Rover? I need a description, or better still a picture, of which brake line goes into the threaded boss on the rear side of the valve.

The image in the Series III parts manual is not correct for the actual part. It shows the thread bosses being two on the top and two on the bottom. I have one on the top, one on the rear side and two on the bottom (total 4).

Your help would be very much appreciated.

Not sure if it will assist..or add to the confusion, This is what's mounted on a 74 109sw 6/cyl that I've got.

The 2 lines feed in on the top from the master cylinder. ( not in pic )

The line bottom rear = rear brakes

The 2 lines bottom front and strait out the front of the union = front right and left brakes

Total of 5

Dave,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to respond. You are correct however that this generates more questions:

1) The manual show the valve with the switch face down but your picture shows the switch face up? When I talked to Les Parker he also thought the switch should be face down. So now I don't know which way is correct.

2) The manual shows the big brass nut holding in the spring (I assume) in the barrel facing forward, but yours faces to the rear?

3) My valve is a different part than yours - yours have 5 inlets/outlets mine has only 4.

Can anybody else help answer these questions?

Thanks,

Paul

I will try to get a picture of my valve posted today.

Lots of people looking at my post - someone must be able to help me with my question?

Mine looks just like in Dav1550's photo, with the switch to the top. If you have a series 3 dual system wouldn't you need a valve with 5 holes and not 4?

Here are some pictures of my valve. See the port on the side which is different that the other members' valves. Also my valve has 4 ports not 5 like the others. Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Paul

First thanks to those that have replied already. But they have 5 ports to their valves. Someone must have a 4 port version of their brake failure valve.

Please help Ike, TeriAnne or some of the other experts.

Thanks,

Paul

I'm no expert but I recall the 5 way unions were discontinued... what did Les say about that?
When I converted my brakes to power assist I just connected the rear pipe to its feeder with a spare brass union.
You might need to do the same...

If it makes you feel any better in the UK most people just pull the brake warning valve out and junk it as it is generally considered an unreliable POS that can make brake bleeding a pain. It's an easy job to replace it with some simple unions.

Unless you feel you really must have the warning light it sounds like it is just an expensive headache that can be best left in the bin of anachronistic british car bits.

I haven't looked at it in detail in this thread but it sounds like the system used on most MOD series trucks and the 101. If you have no luck here I would look at PA Blanchards site in the UK as they stock a lot od the odd ex mil stuff.

Sorry to be of little help if you really want this on your truck.

Momo, as I have already purchased the valve from our hosts at great cost I would like to use it. But unless I can get a picture I still do not know which way round to place the valve. The part number is NRC4282 which is the correct part for a 109 station wagon.

Thanks,

Paul

Gregor - thanks - as I have said I have purchased the valve and so now would like to use it. But I will need a picture of the NRC 4282 valve installed so I can see which way round it is supposed to go. Thanks,

Paul

I read through all of these postings (which can be very confusing at times) but I still do not see anything that tells me which way round to place the valve (NRC 4282) on a 109 Station Wagon. I purchased the valve at great cost so now I would like to use it (despite some of the warnings in the links). Any ideas where can get a picture of my part (4 outlets not 5 outlets)?

THanks for your help

Paul
