I've got the 2.25L engine out of my 1969 IIa and I'm in the process of tearing it down and rebuilding it. So far, it doesn't look like there was much coolant in the oil.

I've been advised to go ahead replace the oil pump while I've got it apart. What's the general consensus on this?

I have no idea how the truck was running when it was parked a couple of years ago.

Thanks for your input.

Up to you. If you'll sleep better, then go ahead and do it.

Personally,
I've never (knowingly) had an engine fail due to a bad oil pump. It always seems somthing else pops first. Below is a list of blowouts:

'76 TR6-threw rod through block
'72 SIII-head gasket let go, drove it anyway, cracked block
'58 MGA-broken ring, scarred cylinder, engine rebuild ensued.
MG Midget (forgot the year)-rod bearing ate itself.
'82 Jeep Cherokee-rod bearing ate itself.
'61 corvette - foolishly used holley carb. Trash in fuel system clogged carb. Gas flowed out of top of float bowl (common for holley), and caused engine fire. Full restoration ensued.

I could go on, but you get the picture. I've rebuilt, or brought back to life just a damn ton of brit cars, and never had a problem specific to the oil pump.

Just my experience.

Thanks Travis.
You did a great job articulating what I suspected was the case. Now it becomes more or less a budget decision.
