    Hard Top Removal/Soft Top Installation

I am getting ready to remove my hard top this weekend and install the hoop set and soft top for my IIA 88 SW, as well as a tailgate. Does anyone have any detail pictures they can post of the hoop set in place, interior shots, etc. I just want to make sure I get it all in the right place...

    Thanks,

    Chris

Sorry no pictures of the hoop set.

It's very straight forward. If this is your first time taking the hard top off, get a friend to help. Otherwise, expect to put a rip in your headliner when it slips from your hands.

Don't ask me how I know this.

I bookmarked this awhile ago when I got my soft top. It was very helpful.

Thanks Tim and Sven, esp. for the article. It's the first time taking off the top, and the PO said in 13 years, he never removed it. I am sure to be in for an experience.

I still welcome any pictures someone out there might have.

        Thanks,

        Chris

Dude, you forgot to mention posting them to the forum. We needs our precious pictures.

By the way, my 88 has a half hoop in the middle section or the rear area. You know. It's the top half that is just attached to the cross bars. Is that different than any one else's 88? Do some rovers not have that piece?

My 109 certainly doesn't have it.

aye if I get time I will post them up here

by half hoop I'm guessing you mean it goes to the middle than nothing ?

I have 3 full length bars one right behind the seat bulkhead and one in the middle and one at the end

I will take Picts of the mounts and the hoops

from the series 2 forum, all you need to know about tilts it has picts on where to hook up the rope, and the other tie downs

                HOOP SET

The main thing is to get all the bits, especially the claws for all the posts...I was going super fast(45mph) and the wind caught the top and the rear hoop set came out, scared the crap out of me. Needless to say I spent the $50 to get every bit ever made to ensure it wouldnt happen again. Also, look at splicing snaphooks on the line to make securing everything a bit quicker. Good Luck.

Hey, that is pretty slick! You've got clips that actually hold the support poles down. Never seen that before.

                    Thanks!

                      no problem

I just figured the clips where standard, maybe the Belgium military requested them

I am pretty sure that they are standard. I had to grind away the welds on my 109 P-up as that is how the PO got them to stay in place. The clips are available from our hosts. At least they were when I needed them in the past.

I just let the gravity do the talking.

I've had the soft top at around 70 mph with the sides and back rolled up and the frame never went for a walkabout. Things do get floppy and a bit worrisome at that speed but nothing more than a bolt was lost. I do have to stop and re-tighten the side bracing arms from time to time, or at least until I wrapped the treads in Teflon that is.
