Hello board. I am interested in the correct part number and any additional hardware needed to add an ARB air-locker to my 1971 2A. I need the part numbers used for the 24 spline axles, as I plan to convert to these bigger half shafts. I am thinking about using the GBR axles and drive flanges. Any thoughts?
Thanks for the info.

Talk to Jim at Seriestrek.com for 24 spline axles for a reasonable price. He can point you toward the other parts you will need.

do you already have a 10 spline arb(RD03) and need to convert it to 24 spline? I have the info and part #s here somewhere if you need them otherwise email Tim Lund.

I'd use the Series Trek 24 spline axles if it were me, they have integral drive flanges which eliminates one more wear point on the standard design:

Thanks for the input. I currently have the stock Rover 10 spline open diff's. I have an opportunity (possibly) to get an ARB at wholesale (or lower). I might go ahead and get the front and rear set up depending on the actual price. I am looking for the actual part numbers from ARB for this application. I didn't want to bother any of the suppliers/builders since I would not be purchasing from them. The series trek axles are intriguing. Do they just bolt up to the current drive hub where the drive flange would mount? Thanks for the help. Brian

MercedesRover's axles just bolt up to the drive hub. They reduce any play at the wheel end and cure leaking hub caps.

Check out this .pdf http://www.arbusa.com/alac/215109.pdf

the ARB part #s were RD03 (10 spline) and RD 26 (24 spline old model) RD128 (newer 24 spline model).

If you want to keep the 4.7 ratio R&P you need the RD03A spacer for the ring gear:
http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProdID=5311

RD03A ring gear spacer required. Longer ring gear bolts (not supplied) are also necessary - (Land Rover part no. 576521).
When an RD03(and RD128) Air Locker is to be installed in Range Rovers manufactured prior to 1980 (approx.), special carrier bearings
(No. K11300/K11162) may also be necessary - Land Rover part no. RTC3426.

For what it's worth, I'd advise against the spacer ring route as that is what failed on my truck some years ago and ended up eating the ring gear. I think the spacer introduces too much play and the opportunity for things to come loose.

Bill at GBR has a ring and pinion set up for 4.7 that has the extra thickness built in to the ring avoiding this problem.

Kam uses special strengthened & 4mm longer bolts with their spacer on the 4.75 R&P: www.kamdiffs.com/

Really though why not go to the 30 spline Toyota conversion while you are looking to upgrade?

I have thought about the locker idea, but does a Series really have the power to pull all the resistance with a front or rear locker? Even if the axles weren't an issue (I.E. breaking)? Something has to give, like third member, transfer case, transmission or clutch. I would like to do the same but would it be more problems than stock? I was originally thinking of doing this with my Land Cruiser, but that is a whole different drivetrain. The Rover is still better by the way.
