i could search the internet and maybe find some answers to my squealing brakes, but why not ask the experts... i had my mechanic put new shoes and new drums on my 66 siia 88. they were tight for a tank or so but that has loosened up. now they are squealing at the very end of a braking run. any ideas... ray

Try getting a can or two of brake-Kleen, pull off the drums, and clean everything out. You mention that things were tight, and have loosened up a bit. A buildup of dust from the new shoes can sometimes cause squeling.

Make sure that the mating surfaces of the hub and the drum are clean. Also make sure that the 2 bolts holding the shoe retainer in place on the bottom are tight and that the retainer is not bent.

A little high temp anti sieze on the contact points between the shoes and the backing plate helps too.

You mean this is not normal. Even the films i've seen with series LR's in them the brakes always squeal.
