Just curious - I plan on buying an 88 frame this summer for the blue SW. Since the dollar is equivalent to a small piece of dirt compared to the pound now, and all genuine parts have gone up considerably, do I need to buy the frame before it doubles in price as well?

They haven't yet, but I wouldn't wait around. With the price of steel, the price of shipping and the value of the dollar, it's just a matter of time.

I'm having trouble with vessel space and the cost to ship containers. Those willing to pay higher prices are getting the space. In addition, the price of metals is shooting sky high. If it were me, I'd make the order sooner rather than later.

Ref the chassis prices,:-

RN will hold its price for those currently in stock, though, as in all areas of commerce during these time, markets fluctuate and the hidden costs of loading/shipping containers from UK are beyond our control. Thus, future stocks of chassis (in particular - as they require so much room in a container), may well increase in price, though we will continue to hold the price for as long as we possibly can.
I am not sure why someone would offer a PM on this subject, though.

I'm in for an 88 if there is a group buy.

Can a lightweight be placed on a civilian series 3 frame?

Yes, a light weight 12v will work, though the rear crossmember and the body mounting tabs for the rear body are unique to each.
We can Special Order an Air portable chassis (RNE435), current price for these are $2399.00.
Inventory is OK at the moment, though the season for committing to a chassis replacement/restoration is looming, so they may go soon.

lightweight 12v? What about a 24 volt lightweight on a civilian frame?

Les:

To get a shipping quote, I went to order an 88 frame and it said shipping to 25177 via UPS was $36.75. Is that accurate?...Hoping...

Any special deals for this Memorial Day like last year? 10% off (I'll be placing an order in this case), free shipping?

Are the RNE435 frames galvanized. I already have a series 3 frame (galvanized) under a 1959 S2. I decided to part out the S2 and use that frame under the lightweight if I could.

On a 12V Air Portable, the battery/air cleaner sit on the RH inner part of the chassis leg, so to enable a civilan chassis to work on a 24V vehicle, modifications would be required in this area, along with relocating the tabs on the chassis for mounting the rear body. Also, the civilian chassis doesnot have mountings for the oil cooler/pipes and the rear cross member is angled as compared to the straight military cross member. Also no portal for the 12 pin NATO socket.

Hope this guides you down the best path for your needs.

And yes, the RNE435 chassis' are galvanized.

So much for that. Could the frame be dropshipped from Marsland (or whomever makes them) cheaper?

Anyone driving down south from VT want to make a few bucks?

Hell,

just make one. It seems we're all headed that direction anyway. If one more part shows up as NLA, I'm gonna puke.

I know Marsland is in the UK, but I'm about 850 miles from RN and there's a shipping port pretty close to me.

I am torn because I want a galvy chasis for both my 109 sw and 109 reg for the longevity of the vehicle but the stock chasis on there now seem to be in good condition.

Then keep it!
